I appreciated the laid-back approach when buying a car.
We found ourselves in a situation where we needed a replacement vehicle quickly. After hours of searching many states (Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and all the way to Indiana) we circled back to SkyWay. Phone discussions were very pleasant and they had a shipment coming in. The price was reasonable given the market conditions.
We gave them a $500 deposit over the phone. The vehicle came in a week earlier than expected. That's always great news and certainly out of their control. We thought we had another week to get the money transferred. But they understood and worked with us. Our 830 credit score might have helped.
We drive 2 hours from Kansas, somewhat nervously as dealerships can seem one way but different after you get on the lot. We found them genuine and casual regarding sales. Honestly, we knew the vehicle and didn't even test drive. The finance guy was friendly and I didn't ever feel pressured. We will certainly look at SkyWay first, when we look to purchase again.
Kudos to Steven Smith and Micheal Layton.
My wife and I were in the market for a minivan and we had been looking at new and used Honda Odyssey minivans. We saw one posted online by Skyway Honda in Bartlesville that appeared to meet all of our criteria and was within our price range. I called the dealership and spoke to a sales agent named Collin. He was friendly and very nervous on the phone, but I agreed to drive an hour to the dealership to take a look at the Odyssey in their listing.
When we arrived, everything went well and seemed about as normal as any other time I set foot on a dealership. Collin was young and clearly an inexperienced sales agent who was nervous the entire time. We looked over the van and everything seemed to be in order, except for one huge issue. My wife noticed that the passenger side door had a leather armrest that was completely destroyed. This was on a minivan that was 6 years old, but in otherwise great condition. This cosmetic blemish bothered my wife, but I was willing to overlook it. So we proceeded with a test drive and when we returned to the dealership, I asked Collin what the next steps were to take this car home. He instructed me to make an offer.
So we all headed inside to Collin's desk, where I proceeded to make him an offer that was a couple of thousands of dollars below their listed price. I thought this would be my initial offer and we could try to meet in the middle somewhere. Immediately Collin used that old "let me get my manager's approval" line and left with my offer on a piece of paper. I was expecting him to return with a counter offer.
Instead, I was greeted by the Sales Manager, who introduced himself to me (but not my wife) as Josh. He didn't even offer to shake my hand. Before we could even discuss my offer, he proceeded to explain to me how sales worked and then launched into an entire monologue about how big box stores price and sell toilet paper. He was explaining to me how fixed price retail sales work as if I were a child. He was super condescending.
My wife was immediately put off by this man's rude behavior, but I liked the car and I was on the fence about the price. So I asked Josh if they would even consider lowering the price at all, with his response being that they don't negotiate their prices. Their vehicles are priced to sell apparently. When I mentioned the torn passenger upholstery and how that warranted some kind of discount, Josh then proceeded to ask me how much would I be willingly to pay for the car? I was confused, I thought there was no negotiating. When I called him out on this, he then just kept repeating that the car had already been discounted and would sell quickly. At this point, the whole conversation just continued to deteriorate.
The rudest part of the entire exchange and I'm inclined to believe this part was racially motivated, came when I was discussing with my wife whether we should purchase the car or not. We were speaking in a non-English language, when all of a sudden Josh (the Sales Manager I remind you), interrupted my wife and me by blurting out "I don't understand!" Well, that's because we weren't speaking to you. I don't recall when this country mandated what language I could or couldn't speak to my wife in. My issue wasn't that he interrupted us, but his tone. The not so subtle statement that he couldn't understand us. It was clearly a racist jab. I was shocked at first, that he interrupted us, but the more I thought about it, the more apparent it became that this man didn't want us speaking our language in his place of business.
It's obvious the Sales Manager wasn't interested in selling us a car that day, so my wife and I got up and left. In my 20+ years as an adult, I can't recall the last time I experienced something this racist. Skyway Honda not only lost a potential customer, but I'll be sure to tell all of my friends and family to stay far away from this place (in our native language of course)!
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT and DEALERSHIP. I worked out a deal for my daughter over the phone with a Sales Rep. Exact amount was agreed to and the check was written (This was a Cash Deal). The next day, my daughter went to pick up the car. After 2 hours on the road to pick up the car, she gets a call saying that the car had already been sold to someone else (by another Salesperson). No call or apology from the Sales Manager. I don't fault the Salesperson because he lost the sale and wasted his day off to be there. Sales Management is totally unprofessional and makes the entire Dealership look bad. It's a shame because I was wanting to buy from them for my wife's and my own vehicle down the road.
This was my first brand new vehicle purchase and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it went! I messaged with Scott for a bit, immediately knowing and telling him what I wanted. He informed me of a new arrival and held it until my appointment. Once I arrived I was greeted kindly by Blane who then helped me get the process started. I came prepared with what I wanted and had my finances in check which thoroughly helped speed the process up. I was in and out within 2 1/2 hours. Both employees were so helpful, and kind, and made sure I understood what was happening and what I was signing for. Truly thankful for their time and help, and getting me the car I dreamed of. I’ve now had my car for a month and everyday I continue to be happy with choosing them for my purchase. I highly recommend Skyway Honda!
Bought a vehicle here 4 years ago. Good experience then. Came back with my son, horrible experience. I don’t understand when we have 10,000 down to pay on a car why the kid wouldn’t work with us. We literally told him what we wanted we found online, how much we were willing to put down, great credit and he flat out would do nothing. He didn’t run a credit report, he didn’t ask his boss, he didn’t even know if they had a referral program. We were trying to speak with Jeremy who sold us the car 4 years ago. This kid wouldn’t let us do anything. After a 1 hour drive to this place and we spent a few minutes when we were buyers! We planned on driving a new car home tonight! Guess they don’t need business that bad. Anyone else who has a 2024 or 2023 new Honda civic hatchback gray, we are buyers. Message me we will be in and we can pay about half down! Won’t be back to this place unless Jeremy wants to make us a deal! The kid didn’t even get our info and we had to ask for his! I just don’t understand why someone would be turned down who has money. We could have paid for the entire car in cash if we wanted to. Just unbelievable.
My son’s first BRAND NEW car and expecting to drive one home today that he found online and this is his customer service experience the first time he goes in somewhere.
I had an absolutely great experience buying my new vehicle from Scott Upton and Skyway. I left with the vehicle I wanted without feeling like I had been through a high pressure timeshare sales pitch. Refreshing! The way it should be. Thank you Scott and Skyway!
If you’re looking for a place that lies to you about the quality of a used car for sale and doesn’t have after the sale service this is that place.
Bad breaks aren’t so bad. Try buying a car with bad breaks in your hometown but you live in Texas.
I don’t think Texans understand or care about right away. One second you’re going a hundred. The next second some punk with spikes on their rims swerves for the Texas City Buc ee’s and the highway locks up. Never again will they have my business.
Bought a great used SUV at a great price. The salesman and ownership were knowledgeable and weren't pushy at all. Everyone was very easy to work with and didn't flinch when we notified them that we were pre-approved and going to use our credit union for financing. Long drive for us(3 hours) but great car for a great deal.
